FAQ

Q. What will the experience be like?

A. During your session I want you to explore your surroundings and interact with your loved ones as you naturally would. I’ll capture many candid moments and get to know you a little bit during this time. In the beginning I like to make sure we get some of the basic poses, but I love movement in my sessions. I might ask you to do something silly like, walk towards me while hip bumping your partner, or tell your kiddos to run around in a circle while you and your partner hold still and kiss. More often than not these candid photos will end up being some of your favorites. I love input as well. If you see something or have an idea - let me know. Let’s create together!

Q. What is your style? -

A. My goal is to capture the raw emotion that exists by creating timeless images that aren’t just considered trendy. I consider my edits to be vibrant while maintaining true-to-life colors. Nature during golden hour is my favorite backdrop.

Q. How long will it take to receive my photos?

A. Unless otherwise specified, my turnaround time is 2-4 weeks. Rush editing is available for an additional $100.00. This would essentially bump you to the top of the editing queue, and allow you to get your images within 7 days of the session.

Q. Do you deliver every photo you take?

A. No. I eliminate duplicate images, test shots, missed focus shots, etc. Often times I shoot at a low aperture, so I take multiple photos of the same thing to make sure I have focus. I don’t expect you to zoom into every photo to see which one has the most sharp focus, that’s why I spend hours doing it for us.

Q. Do I have the option to order prints through you?

A. Yes! Through your personalized online gallery you have the option to check out products and prints with my online store.

Q. Do I have to order prints through you?

A. No you do not! Your images come with a print release to take to your distributor of choice. However I cannot guarantee quality of third party vendors. With images printed from my partnered lab you are receiving 100% guarantee for both color and quality. From Framed Prints to Fine Art Canvas — even specialty projects or packaging — together we will ensure that you get the same unmatched quality every time.

Q. Where will we take photos?

A. Location must be within 20 minutes of Bettendorf, Iowa. Travel fees may incur for additional distances. I have some favorite location ideas but am open to your ideas as well! Unless discussed and agreed upon ahead of time, I usually do not take indoor home portraits or event photos.

Q. Do you have studio access?

A. Yes! This is a great indoor option and truly the perfect blank canvas for any type of photography. Available for rent through Linen & Light in Bettendorf, Iowa for an additional fee.

Q. What is my $50 deposit for?

A. Your $50 deposit reserves your session in my calendar and goes towards the final price of your session. Opal Lane Photography will reserve the time agreed upon and will not make another reservation for the specific time frame. For this reason, all retainers are non-refundable. If a Client chooses to reschedule their session, they have 90 days to do so before the retainer is forfeited.

Q. Some of your packages only include a certain amount of people. Can I add additional friends or family to my package?

A. You absolutely can! Each person added to your package is $25 a piece.

Q. What should we wear?!

Q. What time will my session be?

A. Lighting. Lighting. Lighting. Ask any photographer or teenage selfie-taker, lighting is key. For outdoor sessions, I typically start 60-90 minutes before sunset. Indoor sessions will vary depending on when the best light is streaming into your home or the studio.

Q. What if the weather sucks?

A. If it’s gloomy or cloudy, we can still make some absolute m-a-g-i-c. Clouds are a giant natural soft box that eliminates harsh shadows. It’s my favorite time to shoot! But, if we have rain or other inclement weather, I would suggest a reschedule.
